Our Sales Director Debbie Isles gives her thoughts on what retailers should be stocking for Mothers’ Day (31 March 2019).
“Last year around £600m was spent in total on Mother’s Day, which was an increase of 3.4% over 2017. This year, the figure is expected to increase again as British people prove that they love spoiling their mums. It’s great news for retailers too as it means in the pre-Easter period there is usually a great sales boost.
There are some exciting gift ideas for Mother’s Day this year within our own brand Candle range. The Blush & Mint range of candles and reed diffusers has a contemporary, elegant feel, designed for ladies who like that extra bit of luxury. Attractively presented in peach and teal boxes, these gifts feature an appealing pineapple fragrance, with names including ‘Siesta’, ‘Paradise’ and ‘Tropic’.
Gin and Prosecco have seen significant growth in popularity in recent years and drink-inspired candles and reed diffusers are also perfect for Mothers’ Day gifts. Our new range boasts very authentic fragrances and great shelf appeal. Prosecco fragranced candles are displayed in tins with a contemporary monochrome design, which complements the current black and white trend in interiors. The quirky message is ‘Nothing Prosecco can’t fix’.

The Gin candle tins feature more vibrant pink, green and gold tones, with the messages ‘Gin & bare it’, ‘Gin fizz bang’ and ‘Gin is liquid sanity’. The designs are contemporary and the packaging is fun and vibrant and will maximise shelf appeal.
These candles and reed diffusers are complemented by an inspirational range of home decorations. For 2019, Candlelight has introduced a number of new trinket dishes, including a stoneware hexagonal dish in white with gold effect, plus a gold and pink heart-shaped version, both of which make an ideal Mother’s Day gift. In addition, we introduced a 12cm cylindrical trinket pot with attractive teal outer and gold inner and top to add an extra touch of glamour to the dressing table.
Also new for mums this season is our Home range. Within that and ideal for mums planning holidays, we have introduced a range of attractive woven beach bags, including a large bag with five coloured pom poms and an equally attractive style of large bag with silver sequins and silver handles.
For mums who are cat or dog lovers, we have a white resin cat figurine with gold crown and a Shar-Pei dog figurine in white resin with gold tiara. Retailers may also find that throws are popular for Mother’s Day, or indeed, all year around, within our own brand range. This includes a 130cm x 170cm white and duck egg blue throw and the same size of woven throw in pink with white pom poms.
We have also released a range of attractive photo frames, ideal for mums to keep pictures of their loved ones close, one with pink marble effect, one with pink and gold edges and one grey with gold edges, to fit with contemporary home styling. Within the new Rustic Retreat range, there is an attractive double photo frame in light oak effect, plus a set of three hanging frames in light oak, with a heart design for the middle sized frame.
